Used-truck buyers going online

The online truck auction site hookup.com reports that buyers are rapidly turning to the Internet for used tractors, trucks, trailers and other equipment. Activity at the site grew from just 150 bids last August to 2,280 in November.

At presstime, the site had received over 1,700 bids in the first 10 days of December, resulting in sales of more than $440,000. The company projected that the number of online bids for equipment listed at the site would top 4,700 by the end of the month.

“The industry is beginning to see that buying and selling equipment online is a valuable, cost-effective business tool,” says Kurt DeRuy, vpmarketing and sales for hookup.com. “It allows sellers to market trucks, trailers and equipment outside their region and … the cost-per-thousand is extremely low. Plus, buyers are able to shop at their convenience.”
