FleetOwner's Best of 2008

Fleet owners will long remember 2008  as a year fraught with challenges, most notably dealing with the highest diesel fuel prices ever and the onslaught of a rapidly deteriorating economy as well as being pressured to ensure both safer and greener truck operations.

Facing up to these challenges led fleets of all types to rethink their way of doing business-- with some forced to cut back significantly or even close their doors altogether.

But thankfully it wasn’t all doom and gloom. One silver lining was skyrocketing fuel prices renewed the effort to develop more fuel-efficient vehicles and alternative fuels. And, in the long run, these may help the trucking industry not only survive the downturn, but prosper more fully when the economy bounces back.

Fleet Owner covered it all, the good and the bad, online and in print with its unique blend of reporting and analysis delivered by its award-winning editorial staff.

By way of saying farewell to the year soon to pass,  the editors have selected from our site the Top 10 Fleet Owner news stories, feature articles and blogs from 2008, which may be accessed below.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 15, FleetOwner will unveil a new story each weekday until the countdown is completed on Monday, Dec. 29.

And, as they don’t want to leave anyone out, the editors request all readers to please submit their opinion via our Best of 2008 online poll.
