Lorry watch campaigners are proving they mean business after seven further prosecutions of large trucks flouting weight restrictions across a historic bridge.

Bradford on Avon Lorry Watch began in 2012 with a team of dedicated volunteers, working with the town council and Wiltshire Council, to monitor vehicles infringing the weight limit on the Town Bridge.

In the latest prosecutions in February 2014 a total of seven companies were charged totalling £5,671 in fines and costs.

Keith Humphries, cabinet member for public protection, said: ''This is another good result for the lorry watch scheme and I thank the volunteers for their efforts. We hope this action sends out a very clear message to other haulage companies and drivers that we mean business and will take action.''
