The free ride for Detroit’s big pickups will come to an end in 2014, when U.S. corporate average fuel economy rules embrace the long-exempt Class 2 trucks. Later this month, NHTSA and EPA will suggest a rulemaking approach for vehicles between 8,500 lbs. and 10,000 lbs. GVW, ending a CAFÉ exemption that dates back to 1975.
