The transport department has launched a drive to keep a check on the overloaded trucks plying unabated on the roads of the district and causing huge revenue loss to the state exchequers.

BOKARO: The transport department has launched a drive to keep a check on the overloaded trucks plying unabated on the roads of the district and causing huge revenue loss to the state exchequers.
The move was initiated at the direction of DC, Bokaro, Sunil Kumar who found that many trucks which are transporting minerals and other materials from the steel, power, coal and cement companies are plying overloaded.

These trucks are not only violating the traffic rules but also damaging roads and causing inconvenience to the residents. A team headed by motor vehicle inspector, Tarun Kumar has caught 10 trucks and fined them while conducting a drive on the National Highway-32 between Jainamoad and Petarwar.
District transport officer, Bokaro, Vijay Kumar Gupta said the drive will continue more strongly in other areas. The team will also conduct checking in Bermo area which comprises huge number of collieries of Central Coalfied Limited (CCL), power plants of DVC and other units. In these areas the coal and ash laden trucks are seen plying overloaded more compared to other areas, which will be curbed.
"There are several hundred trucks plying overloaded on the roads everyday, which is a violation of law. According to Motor Vehicle Act 1988, the vehicle caught plying overloaded will be given a fine of Rs 2000 and also be charged Rs 1000 per tonne on the stock found loaded above the limit," he said.
