In a press statement on Tuesday afternoon, FCA U.S. announced that it will invest $1.48 billion in its Sterling Heights (MI) Assembly Plant as part of a future growth plan for the Ram brand.
The investment will position the plant to build the next generation Ram 1500 and support future growth of the brand, the company said.
Sterling Heights currently produces the Chrysler 200. FCA said production of that vehicle will end in December to facilitate the renovation of the plant for the Ram 1500, which is currently build at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan.
Future plans for the Warren Truck Assembly Plant will be announced at a later date.
This production action is subject to the formal approval of incentives by state and local entities.
