A new tool from OTC, an SPX Brand, will make servicing wheel hubs and bearings easier by eliminating the need to remove the steering components or knuckle, the company said.

The new hub grappler kit also eliminates unnecessary alignments or the use of a shop press. There is also an application guide that offers tips, charts, and detailed diagrams.

“The hub grappler kit includes all adapters and tools necessary for removing hubs and replacing wheel bearings on most domestic and import vehicles with floating or trapped rotors,” said Rob Kochie, aftermarket product manager. “All of our tools are centered on productivity to do the job right, safely, and quickly.”

The tools and manual provide the capability to remove the hub and bearing. It works on cars and trucks/vans/SUVs that have replaceable wheel bearings and can be used on either front-wheel or rear-wheel drive applications, OTC said.

Among the tools in the kit is a new ¾-in custom drive screw coupled with a special equalizer washer for smooth operation. Proprietary heat treating and coating extends its life five to ten times longer than comparable drive screws, OTC said.

OTC is also making available an update kit that converts the current hub tamer kit to a hub grappler kit. It includes the hub grappler puller, six new adapters, miscellaneous hardware and the new application guide.
