One of the largest loads ever carried by a wheeled vehicle recently rolled to a load-out wharf in England. The fully assembled and equipped oil and gas production facility weighed in at 12,430 tons. It took hundreds of modular transporters from Abnormal Load Engineering (ALE) of Great Britain to move the load.
Germany-based Scheuerle Fahrzeugfabrik supplied 224 of the vehicles for the move. The wheel sets under the heavy haulers were equipped with tapered roller bearings from Timken Co. (www.timken.com).
According to Timken, the move covered about one kilometer (five-eighths of a mile) from the production site to a wharf, where the load will be transferred to a barge to complete the next stage of its move.
