Slider combo gets lighter

The Holland Group announced the release of its integrated, low-weight slider system (ILS), which it says offers up to 151 lb. of weight savings, compared with conventional fifth-wheel/slider combinations, without compromising strength.

The new slider system, which is compatible with Holland FW35, FW31 and FW17 fifth wheels, is available in 7-, 8- and 9-in. mounting heights and travel lengths of 12, 24, 36 and 48 in.

According to the manufacturer, the system's modular design simplifies changing fifth-wheel heights, making it essentially a two-part, six-bolt task.

Holland says that sliding fifth wheels provide the capability to transfer weight between tractor axles, accommodate trailers with different kingpin settings and vary vehicle combination lengths. In addition, they are said to maximize equipment flexibility and improve maneuverability and ride comfort.
