NYC Dept. of Sanitation specs EverSure spring brake

Feb. 24, 2012

The New York City Dept. of Sanitation (DSNY) has chosen the Bendix EverSure spring brake with No Touch technology as the product of choice when replacing the spring brakes on its collection trucks.

The EverSure is a double-diaphragm spring brake for drum brakes that offers the lightest weight in the industry while delivering best-in-class durability and performance, Bendix said.

It is designed to industry-standard dimensions, making it easy to install as a replacement part in the aftermarket.

“The New York City Dept. of Sanitation demands superior reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness in the components it chooses,” said Fernando Bertero, BSFB product line director for specialty. “The department is turning to Bendix for the features and benefits of the EverSure spring brake, starting with parking force, as well as the cost savings the Bendix solution offered. We are pleased to provide DSNY with a brake chamber that delivers world-class design and quality, long life, and strong return on investment.”

According to Bendix, the EverSure eliminates contact between compressed power spring coils allowing the protective coating to remain intact, and resulting in a significant improvement in corrosion resistance over competitive products.

“Contact between coils leads to damage, corrosion, and, ultimately, spring brake failure,” Bertero said. “Together with the additional active coils, the elimination of coil contact enables the EverSure spring brake to set the standard for durability. Corrosion resistance is especially critical to DSNY, whose trucks operate in harsh winter conditions where road salt intensifies corrosion issues in brake chambers.”
