River Crossing by Army Trucks

June 21, 2016
When U.S. military trucks need to cross open bodies of water, such as rivers and lakes, they rely on modern-day pontoon bridges known as Improved Ribbon Bridges or “IRBs” – bridges that can also become impromptu motorized ferries if needed. The 200th Engineer Multi-Role Bridge Company recently shuttled tractor-trailers across the Missouri near Chamberlain, SD, as part of the annual Golden Coyote National Guard exercise to show how IRBs work in the real world.
