Miami area Sawgrass Expressway to go all-electronic/cashless in early 2014

Aug. 14, 2013

The Sawgrass Expressway designated Toll-869 on the northwest outskirts of the Miami/Ft Lauderdale metro area is being converted to all-electronic tolling by Florida’s Turnpike Commission.

The mainline toll plazas on the highway both already have open road electronic tolling (ORT) plus cash collection. Work on the conversion to cashless started in the last week of July and cash collection is due to cease in early 2014.

Conversion to all-electronic toll collection generally improves travel times and safety, and reduces operating costs, according to a Tollroads News report.
