Trucking company pays $630K to settle discrimination suit

Fontana, CA-based Scully Distribution Services, a trucking firm operating in 11 western states, is paying $630,000 to settle a racial harassment and discrimination lawsuit brought against the fleet a year ago by U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, according to a Mercury News report.

The lawsuit claimed managers at Scully — which was purchased by Miami-based Ryder System Inc. last year and is now known as SDS Fontana Holdings — frequently used racial epithets and that black, Hispanic and East Indian truck drivers were the targets of widespread harassment, discrimination and retaliation.
