Ford launches competition to promote engineering to women 25 June 2014

Ford celebrated National Women in Engineering Day (23 June) with a number of initiatives, including a new prize to promote engineering to women and a 'bring your daughter to work' event at its Dunton technical centre, in Essex.

The manufacturer used the event to announce the launch of its £1,000 Ford Prize for Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) studies.

The prize will be awarded to a female student who is judged to have inspired the next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists. Entries will be accepted from the 1 July, via the link below.

Attendees included local MPs Stephen Metcalfe and Rebecca Harris, Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon, and representatives from the Women in Engineering Society (WES), Semta and ScienceGrrl – all organisations focused on science and engineering.

The 'bring your daughter to work' event showcased female engineers within product development and manufacturing. The day gave 60 young female students an insight into engineering careers at Ford.

The day also gave the youngsters a snapshot of a career with Ford, with 'speed-dating' sessions run by female engineers on topics such as career development, work-life balance and routes into engineering.
