Nussbaum Transportation will retrofit its entire trailer fleet with ATDynamics’ TrailerTails and Transtex side skirts following a successful test period.

Nussbaum, a dedicated and truckload carrier based in Normal, IL, tested 40 TrailerTails and side skirts through ATDynamcis’ TrailerTail fleet trial program. The testing confirmed sufficient fuel savings to warrant a full rollout across Nussbaum’s fleet, ATDynamics said.

“It was imperative to us that the equipment be easy to install, operate and maintain. The TrailerTails and side skirts from ATDynamics met the approval of our maintenance team and drivers alike,” said Phil Braker, vice president of operations for Nussbaum.

It is expected that the installation of the devices will reduce diesel fuel consumption by 3 million gals. and cut CO2 emissions by 22 tons, ATDynamics said.

“This investment gives Nussbaum a significant competitive advantage, making it one of the most fuel efficient and technologically advanced fleets in the Midwest. As the trucking industry continues to change and uncertainty around fuel supply and pricing persists, it is the innovative and forward thinking companies like Nussbaum that will be positioned to thrive,” said Andrew Smith, CEO of ATDynamics.

“Being at the forefront of the industry has been central to Nussbaum’s business strategy since its inception over 65 years ago,” said Brent Nussbaum, CEO of Nussbaum Transportation. “The decision to fully retrofit our fleet with aerodynamic tails and skirts was driven by our desire to be fuel efficient and increase profitability.”
