The 2010 Diesel Idle Reduction Campaign is looking for bus and truck drivers who follow diesel idling restrictions and set examples for other drivers in the Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore regions. The organization is looking for nominations for its Driver Recognition Program.

The program was started this summer and is led by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), in collaboration with the District Dept. of the Environment (DDOE), the District Dept. of Transportation (DDOT) and the Maryland Dept. of the Environment (MDE).

Observers who see drivers following idling laws are encouraged to nominate that driver. The laws are 3 min. in Washington, DC; 5 min. in Maryland; and 10 min. in Virginia (exemptions and fines apply in each state).

Drivers will be selected and recognized monthly. Nominations for each month are due by the 15th of the following month.

More information, including the nomination process, is available at www.turnyourengineoff.org.
