Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) has announced it will add 185 hybrid-electric delivery trucks to its North American fleet in 2009, bringing the company’s total number of hybrid-electric vehicles to 327.

The majority of the 142 hybrid-electric delivery vehicles CCE currently has on the road are 12-bay box trucks (33000 GVW), but the company announced that the new fleet will include a 55000 GVW hybrid-electric tractor, the standard bulk-delivery truck the company uses for large deliveries.

According to CCE, its hybrid tractors use approximately 30% less fuel and produce about 30% fewer emissions than standard tractors. They feature hybrid technology from Eaton Corp. as well as vehicles from Kenworth Corp. and engines from Cummins, the company said.

"With the deployment of our newer, larger hybrid delivery vehicles, CCE is continuing to explore ways to help our customers and communities through our corporate responsibility and sustainability efforts,” said CCE chairman & CEO John F. Brock. “These efforts help us capture operational efficiencies, drive innovation and effectiveness, and eliminate waste while simultaneously protecting the environment."
