Integrated for utilities

Qualcomm Inc. and software developer Daffron & Associates announced they will collaborate to offer an integrated wireless solution for utilities, combining Qualcomm's OmniTracs mobile communication system with Daffron's Integration X Platform.

The resulting package will enhance communication and automate the dispatch and completion of service orders and work orders by field workers, Qualcomm says. It should also provide continued service during storms and events when terrestrial-based communication networks go down.

In addition, the combined solution should improve visibility into schedules and tasks to help increase worker productivity, reduce fuel costs and minimize manual data entry, according to Qualcomm. It also features two-way messaging and mapping and location.
