The Canadian parcel delivery company Canpar will outfit 500 trucks with a telematics system from Netistix Technologies Corp. The Netistix FleetPulse provides in-operation vehicle diagnostics as well as location and other telematics data.

AirIQ has added Cingular Wireless GSM/GPRS service for its wireless location-based services. The high-speed digital network will provide telematics coverage throughout North America. Services offered by the company include vehicle location, security alerts, maintenance reminders and remote vehicle disabling.

Atrium Companies, a maker of vinyl and aluminum windows and patio doors, has begun installing 120 PeopleNet onboard computer and mobile communications systems in its private fleet — over 155 tractors, 1,200 straight trucks and 500 trailers.

Prophesy Transportation Solutions Inc. has opened a new training facility for customers using its dispatch system. Expanding its training staff at the same time, the Bloomfield, CT-based company says it will offer users advanced instruction on mobile communications, EDI, Internet shipment status and fleet maintenance features of its system. www.mile.com

The Intermec 761 handheld computer has been approved for voice and data communications over the Verizon Wireless CDMA/1XRTT network. The Intermec 761 runs the Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC operating system and can also support WiFi and Bluetooth. www.intermec.com

Three major utility companies have signed fleet management software contracts with Maximus Asset Solutions. Atco Gas, Alberta's largest natural-gas delivery company, operates 1,600 vehicles out of nine shops. As the parent of Commonwealth Edison of Chicago and PECO Energy of Philadelphia, Exelon Corp. has a field service fleet of 6,000 vehicles. The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority maintains a fleet of 3,500 service trucks.

WebTech Wireless Inc., a Canadian-based provider of telematics services, has signed an agreement to distribute Motorola's Quadrant Fleet Management products and services. WebTech offers a variety of location-based wireless services over both cellular and satellite communications networks.
