With more than 400 fleets tracking over 135,000 trailers with its Global Locating System, SkyBitz says it has signed up eight more fleets. The new customers include Altom Transport, a tanker fleet with 250 trailers, Commidity Express Transportation, a TL carrier with 275 trailers, and Global Tank Leasing, which leases over 300 tanker trailers. Other new for-hire fleets adopting the SkyBitz system are Rapid Transfer Xpress, a Mexican/U.S. carrier with 200 trailers, SDJ Trucking, a contract carrier for the furniture industry, and Tome Joy & Son, a full-service freight management company with approximately 275 trailers. Two private fleet operations have also signed service contracts for the SkyBitz tracking technology: Setton Pistachio, with 150 trailers in its nut-hauling fleet, and Tractor Supply Co., the largest retail farm and ranch store chain in the U.S.
A one-day workshop on intelligent transportation system technology will be sponsored by ITS-NY on Sept. 20 at Rensselaer Polytechnic University in Troy, NY. Michigan utility DTE Energy has installed the fleet management system FleetFocus at 16 shop locations, according to Maximus. Operating Detroit Edison and Michigan Consolidated Gas Co., DTE employs 150 technicians to support 4,200 vehicles.
