PeopleNet goes portable

A new handheld platform equipped with PeopleNet's g3 mobile computing and communication system lets drivers gather and display information wirelessly. The platform combines onboard and portable technologies to bring the system's capabilities from behind the wheel to wherever a driver actually works at customer facilities and around the truck, PeopleNet says.

PeopleNet partnered with mobile solutions software provider TrueContext to develop the new mobile forms used by the handheld devices. Drivers can now use a handheld unit to fill out essential business and regulatory forms such as vehicle inspection reports and delivery manifests. The digital documents can also be adapted easily to the specific needs of trucking companies, according to PeopleNet. Some of the new handhelds even support signature capture and bar-code scanning and digital cameras.
