Toughbooks get quicker

The ruggedized Toughbook notebook computer line from Panasonic has added integrated modems for two new high-speed wireless data technologies, EDGE for the Cingular Wireless network and EV-DO for the Sprint network.

The third-generation wireless technologies have data speeds fast enough to support streaming video and audio, fast Internet access and large file downloads, according to Panasonic.

The company has also announced new high-resolution LCD displays for its field-service notebook line. Said to be 250 to 300% brighter than other commercial-grade notebooks, the 500 NIT LCD offers improved visibility in bright outdoor conditions.

The Panasonic Toughbook line offers magnesium alloy cases, shock-mounted hard drives and other features that let it stand up to drops, shocks, altitude, vibration, dust, water and extreme temperatures, according to the manufacturer.
