Advanced truck seat

Sears Seating says development of its new Atlas truck seat included measuring and interviewing 193 volunteer truck drivers. The result, said Sears, is the “ultimate” truck seat featuring extreme comfort as well as improved three-axis stability and durability during lengthy test cycles.

“We undertook an extensive anthropometric study to learn everything we could about truck drivers, their shapes and sizes, and the comfort features they wanted in a seat,” said Steve Sears, president of the Truck Div. of Sears Seating.

“We took 16 separate measurements in nearly 200 drivers — male and female — to determine the optimum seating dimensions, contours and control locations. We also surveyed drivers on what they liked and disliked about existing seats.” Sears also interviewed fleets, dealers and OEMS.

Key features include:

  • ToggleLink suspension to reduce topping and bottoming and improve fore/aft and lateral stability.

  • Stabilizer with double locking slides and isolator reduces vibration.

  • Comfort Zone, a magnesium contoured support structure.
