Designed by Rostra Precision Controls specifically for use in fleet vehicles, RearSentry is a new obstacle sensing device that mounts out of sight behind or on a vehicle's rear bumper. It is capable of sensing obstacles up to 12 ft. from the rear of the truck, and works day or night, even in the poorest weather conditions like heavy fog, rain or snow, according to the company.

The RearSentry system uses microwave technology to warn drivers when an obstacle is in their path. The driver is alerted through a series of audible beeps that increase in intensity as the object draws closer.

According to Thomas Weiss, vp for the automotive accessories group, “RearSentry operates like an extra set of eyes for drivers, detecting all objects that are not in clear view. Statistics show that the majority of at-fault accidents occur when backing up, and 27% of all accidents occur when a truck is in reverse. Our obstacle sensing system is designed to help remedy these numbers.”

The RearSentry system is available for installation in a variety of local delivery and medium-sized trucks, utility vehicles, cargo vans and private equipment.
