Teleflex Canada recently unveiled its Proheat Generation 4 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) and Climate Control Unit (CCU). According to the company, the newly engineered system addresses issues some drivers have had with APUs and CCU's in the past — cost and reliability. It is also designed to enable drivers to burn 80% less fuel during downtime as opposed to idling the truck's engine.
Besides being streamlined to fit between the fuel tank and the rear wheels, the new Proheat Gen 4 features waterproof electrical connections; easy access oil, air and fuel filter service points; and a self-diagnostic system. A compact, illuminated touch pad control panel enables drivers to operate the system from inside the cab, and an optional timer and battery sensor are also available.
The APU is designed to deliver 4,000 watts of 115V household power for onboard appliances, 40 amps of truck battery charging at 12-14 V, and engine preheating for cold weather starts. The CCU offers 12,000 Btu/hr. air conditioning and 5,000 and 10,000 Btu/hr. heating.
Driven by a 2-cyl. Kubota diesel engine, the Gen 4 system carries a warranty of 4,000 hours or 2 years.
