Using their over-the-air programming (OTAP) ability to update onboard hardware, PeopleNet Communications is adding eight new features to its wireless communications and fleet management system.

Included in the package is a new application for tracking fuel consumption during idle, PTO use and off-road travel, allowing fleets to recover some fuel-use taxes. The application can be used by itself or with the company's online fuel tax services. It supports reporting by vehicle or groups of vehicles on a daily, monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

The OTAP release also includes an application for developing activity standards based on actual fleet performance. The new management tool can identify exceptions to normal processes once it has set standards using a fleet's stop times, average mph, stop activity and other events.

A third application offers a “smart mode” for PeopleNet's automated eDriver Logs feature. The new feature automatically records a driver's duty status based on vehicle movement.

Other features included in the update include an in-cab mute option to disable message alerts, an in-cab scorecard providing drivers with a real-time view of engine performance, a metric measurement option for the company's PerformX engine diagnostics, and increased detail for state-line crossing reports.
