Pager gets Internet e-mail

With a full keyboard and the ability to send and receive Internet e-mail as well as other wireless text messages, the Talkabout T900 from Motorola expands two-way pagers into “personal interactive communicators.”

The new palm-top device can also receive web-based news, weather reports and other information from selected providers.

The T900 features a flip-up 4-line, 80-character display with backlighting, 128 kB of memory, an address book that holds up to 250 contact e-mail addresses and phone numbers, an alarm and an incoming message alert. It can also store and forward messages sent while it is out of service range or turned off.

The suggested retail price for for the T900 is under $200, according to Motorola.

Service providers for two-way messaging over the device include Verizon, SkyTel, Metrocall and PageNet.
