The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) will be looking for ways to reduce the 5,000-plus annual truck-related fatalities by at least 50% when they meet next month in Portland, Ore. A panel on safety technology is one of three issue forums being held. It will be webcast live from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. P. S. T. on December 4.
Panelists include representatives from many facets of the trucking industry: Julie Anna Cirillo, acting assistant administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration; James Hall, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board; Jim Johnson, president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association Inc.; Richard Manfredi, president and CEO of Manfredi Motor Transit Co.; and David Willis, president and CEO of the AAA Foundation for Truck Safety.
