Trimble's Telvisant asset tracking and monitoring system is now available for areas with GPRS service, the next generation of land-based GSM wireless communications that provides high-speed data transmission and an “always on” Internet connection.

Telvisant GPRS offers real-time position updates up to 60 times an hour and access to 365 days of historical data for monthly service prices ranging from $20 to $50. Optional messaging is also available for an additional $10 to $15 a month, according to Trimble. The system also supports communications over CDPD (cellular digital packet data) networks.

Trimble's monitoring system includes in-vehicle hardware, a wireless gateway, a secure data center with Internet access, wireless service and a variety of mobile asset management applications. Among the hosted applications available are mapping, location and event reporting, messaging, work-order management and security monitoring. Telvisant can also be used with PDA's and wireless phones that support wireless application protocol (WAP) and short messaging service (SMS).
