International Truck and Engine Co. reports its Diamond Logic multiplexed electrical system is enabling electronic integration of various types of vocational equipment.

“Electronic integration between the chassis and body equipment is a better way to build a truck and deliver it as complete product,” said Bob Drabecki, the OEM's manager of product integration, during a recent teleconference held for media. He explained that in “higher-volume applications” this is being done via factory-installed remote power modules, each of which boasts six powered outputs and six digital inputs.

The outputs provide power to body-mounted accessories, Drabecki explained, while the inputs “read” information sent from body-mounted electronic sensors. He noted that International's integrated electronics approach also enables on-demand remote throttle control for vehicle operators, which can be crucial to safety.

Drabecki said a Diamond Logic application solution is now available for utility truck fleets. He noted similar application solutions are being readied for other vocational vehicle segments.

In other news, the OEM said it will make a new mobile power solution, dubbed Power Pack 3, available in the 3rd quarter. This will make 3000 watts of AC power accessible on board a truck using a device that will be integrated and enclosed in the vehicle battery box. It will be controlled through the truck's Diamond Logic system.

Mark Schumacher, marketing Manager-truck electronics, said that in April or May the OEM will roll out the International Telematics Solution “to have it available across the country.” He noted that the previously announced solution is currently being “piloted with customers.”
