James Ransom, CDS, director of safety for Boyd Bros. Transportation, has been named the Clare C. Casey Award winner by the Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA). The award, given by TCA’s Safety and Security Div., “recognizes the safety professional of the year for actions and achievements that have profoundly and positively benefited or contributed to safety on our highways,” TCA said.
Ransom has been responsible for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration compliance and risk management for Clayton, AL-based Boyd since 1980. During that time, the company has grown from 75 tractors to 672. Ransom has guided Boyd Bros. to nine safety awards in the past five years.
“I have known and respected James Ransom for many years, and I cannot think of a more deserving safety professional to receive this recognition,” said last year’s honoree, Doug Cook, who is also secretary and treasurer of TCA’s Safety & Security Div. and vp of safety for Covenant Transport.
Ransom is an instructor for the National Safety Council’s defensive driving course and is certified as a director of safety through the North American Transportation Management Institute.
