CVSA offers online air-brake training

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), in association with Zurich Services Corp. and Interactive Driving Systems, has developed an online air-brake training program, “Virtual Risk Manager-Airbrakes.”

The program was developed in response to a government study last year indicating that “brake deficiencies are a factor in nearly 30% of all serious truck crashes that involve a fatality or injury,” according to CVSA. “We need to increase awareness of the unique and special characteristics of air-brake systems,” says Collin Mooney, director of enforcement programs for CVSA.

Training is individualized by having each user first undergo a needs analysis to determine strengths and weaknesses. An interactive experience, the program uses instructional animation and a narrator. When the training is complete, users take a 50-question test to verify that they have mastered the information.

Fleets can access the “Airbrake Challenge” at no charge to determine whether their drivers, mechanics or enforcement officers would benefit from the training program.
