At the National Private Truck Council's (NPTC) Annual Education Management Conference in Atlanta last month, member-company private fleets were recognized for their safe operations.
The NPTC-Bridgestone/Firestone Fleet of the Year Award is presented to companies whose fleets experience the lowest ratio of accidents per million miles for the past year.
The awards are divided by fleet size and operational category:
Barnes & Noble won first place in the local operation category. Target Stores won in the regional operation category for small fleets, and Milliken & Co. won for large fleets. In the mixed operations category, Pendleton Woolen Mills won in the small-fleet category, and Dynegy Midstream Services in the large-fleet category.
The following fleets were recognized for being accident-free in 2003: ADM Trucking, BP, Dynegy Midstream Services, Hittman Transport Services, Moen, Pendleton Woolen Mills, and Target Stores.
In other NPTC news, Matthew Peterson, Mack Leasing System was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Harry Haney III, Kraft Foods, was elected Vice Chair/Chair-Elect.
The Private Fleet Executive of the Year award was presented to Ralph Benson, president of Sentinel Transportation, Wilmington, DE.
Kevin Connors, ConAgra Foods, Omaha, NE, received the Fleet Safety Professional of the Year award.
