LAS VEGAS. Component manufacturer ArvinMeritor (NYSE: ARM) has announced a new business that will provide 3PL services for companies looking to enter or expand operations in the vehicle and industrial aftermarket.

Called Meritor Aftermarket Services, it will offer warehousing, transportation management, packaging, distribution, consulting, customer support, remanufacturing and other advanced logistics services.

Targeted customers for the new business include Tier 2 and 3 suppliers that want to enter the commercial vehicle aftermarket, repackagers looking to expand into new markets, and companies that want to establish remanufacturing operations, according to Joe Mejaly, president of ArvinMeritor’s Aftermarket and Trailer business.

Unlike more traditional 3PLs that focus on manufacturing processes and moving freight, the new Meritor business will use the company’s existing extensive logistics infrastructure to serve the aftermarket, Mejaly said at a news conference held here during Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week.

Operating as part of ArvinMeritor’s existing Aftermarket and Trailer business, the new 3PL will offer services in North America, but plans to expand to global operations, stated Mejaly.

Tim Bauer has been appointed director of business development for the new operation and will lead the global market strategy implementation, according to ArvinMeritor. Paul Nyers has been appointed sales manager.
