The Lee County US Highway 61 bypass in Fort Madison, IA, aimed at reducing congestion and traffic accidents in the city, is now open and in use after several delays.
Grading for the bypass began in the spring of 2009. Originally, the bypass was to be open to traffic the week of Nov. 14, however weather-related delays pushed it to Nov. 21, and it finally opened on Nov. 29.
The state received more than $358 million in federal stimulus funds for the project.
