Pacer Distribution Services, Inc. (PDS), the warehousing and distribution arm of Concord, CA-based logistics provider Pacer International, is opening a new 52-door transload center in Carson, CA, to support increased demand for transloading services for international freight shipments moving from the West Coast to inland points.

The facility, located on 5.4 acres, is adjacent to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and will be primarily dedicated to transloading services, though it will also provide additional capacity to the company’s previously existing warehouse operations that already occupy more than 800,000 square feet. These facilities support transload, cross-dock, and customized freight-distribution services in the Los Angeles area.

“The recent shift in the marketplace caused by some of the largest ocean carriers reducing the number of inland locations they serve presents Pacer with an opportunity,” said Kent Prokop, president of PDS. “This additional facility allows us to respond quickly to the rising demand from importers; it allows us to add capacity to transload more international freight into more efficient 53-ft domestic containers for inland moves from the West Coast.”

“This move aligns with our ongoing efforts to increase our integration of logistics services,” added David Hoppens, vp-marketing for Pacer International. “We will roll out a fully integrated international freight transload service with domestic door-to-door delivery in the near future to further leverage this transload capacity expansion.”
