Ruan tapped as Chamber of Commerce vice chairman

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has named John Ruan III as vice chairman for 2010. Ruan is chairman & CEO of Des Moines-based Ruan Transport Corp.

“John Ruan's selection as vice chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce speaks to his leadership ability and the respect he commands from his peers,” said Gov. Bill Graves, American Trucking Assns. president & CEO. “It is a tremendous honor for the trucking industry to have one of our leaders in line to become chairman of the leading business organization and lobby in the nation.”

In addition to overseeing Ruan Transport Corp., Ruan serves as director & chairman of Iowa Export-Import Trading Co. and the World Food Prize Foundation; director, chairman & president of City Center Corp.; director of Seven Hundred Grand Assn.; trustee of John Ruan Foundation Trust; and director, chairman, president & CEO of both Ruan Center Corp. and Ruan, Inc.

Outside of the transportation business, Ruan is director, chairman, president & CEO of bank holding company BTC Financial Corporation and serves as chairman & director for the bank subsidiary, Bankers Trust Company NA.

Ruan also serves as director of Hubbell Realty Co., Iowa Business Council, Greater Des Moines Partnership, Downtown Community Alliance and Chief Executives Organization. He is trustee of Culver Educational Foundation, and past chair of the Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization and The Greater Des Moines YMCA.
