Seattle road closures impact I-5 and I-90

July 7, 2011
I-5 and I-90 will be closed midday on Saturday and Sunday but should reopen for the work week.

Long delays can be expected for drivers heading into Seattle on I-5 and I-90 midday Saturday and Sunday. The cause is the closure of Highway 520 between Montlake Boulevard in Seattle and Interstate 405 in Bellevue for the weekend. The I-5 ramps to and from Mercer Street will also be closed.

The Washington State Dept. of Transportation is urging drivers to take alternate routes. Delays are also anticipated for those taking I-405 toward I-90.

“This is the second of up to six weekend-long closures on Highway 520 between now and the end of the year,” Brian Dobbins, a WSDOT construction engineer, said in a statement. “We can get a lot of work done in a weekend closure, like building huge fish-friendly culverts that span the entire highway.”
