The Diesel Truck Driver Training School of Sun Prairie, WI, is adding a career services department to its operations. The new department aims to help students find a job in the truck driving industry upon graduation.
Career counseling essentially begins during the first week of training as new students discuss career goals, areas of interest within the trucking industry, and the region of the country in which they will be seeking employment.
Another component of the career counseling process is training in “soft skills” that guides students in the art of successfully interviewing for a job. This includes networking techniques, interview tips, and information on applying for employment and resume building, the school said.
The final stage is job search assistance, using the school’s Job Leads Database to scan thousands of potential employers by state, city or zip code.
The school added that truck driver openings are on the rise in the U.S. as, according to preliminary Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers, payroll trucking employment has added 8,800 jobs since March of this year.
