UPS contributed more than $1 million in cash and in-kind support to earthquake relief efforts in Haiti through its charitable arm, UPS Foundation, which includes $500,000 in cash and up to $500,000 of in-kind services. The funds were divided between The American Red Cross, CARE, UNICEF and other organizations that aid relief efforts.

The company is also a member of the World Food Programme's Logistics Emergency Teams (LETs) and anticipates the activation of those teams. The LETs initiative involves providing logistics experts to oversee on-site disaster response, normally for a deployment of three to six months.

Eaton pitches in to aid Haiti

Responding to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, truck component supplier Eaton Corp. donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross International Disaster Relief Fund and has pledged to match donations of its employees to the United Way Worldwide Disaster Relief Fund.

“It is our hope that these donations will help in easing the pain and suffering resulting from the tragic events in Haiti,” said William B. Doggett, Eaton's senior vp-public and community affairs.

Since 2005, Eaton employees have donated nearly $400,000 to support victims of catastrophic events around the world. The company matches each dollar employees give.

Oshkosh aids two aid groups

Oshkosh Corp., which manufactures specialty vehicles and bodies, has donated $50,000 to the relief efforts in earthquake-torn Haiti; pledging $25,000 to the Red Cross and $25,000 to Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization.

“The devastation in Haiti due to this natural disaster is beyond comprehension,” says Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh chairman & CEO. “We hope in some small way, our contributions will assist the relief effort as Haitians are forced to deal with the horrific circumstances. … Our hearts go out to the people of Haiti.”

ConocoPhillips contributes to Red Cross

Lubricant and fuel provider ConocoPhillips has contributed $1 million to the American Red Cross to assist in disaster relief efforts arising from the earthquake in Haiti. This assistance comes in addition to contributions and volunteer efforts already being made by various employee groups at the company.

“All of us at ConocoPhillips are deeply saddened by the loss of life and injuries resulting from the Haitian earthquake,” says Jim Mulva, chairman & CEO.

Dealer funds relief flight

TEC Equipment, a Mack, Volvo, and GMC truck dealership chain based on the West Coast, organized and helped fund a mercy flight to Haiti, using TEC's corporate jet to fly a team of seven doctors, nurses and health professionals along with their supplies from Medical Teams International to the earthquake-ravaged Caribbean country. Dave Thompson, TEC president & CEO, piloted the company's Cessna Citation Encore jet from Aurora, OR, to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and back. TEC offered the use of the jet and employees pledged and raised money to pay for the cost of the flight.
