Truckers are being warned by the Washington State Dept. of Transportation about a scam designed to bilk truckers being run in the state.

Truckers have reported receiving letters requesting anyone with a Dept. of Transportation (DOT) number to send a company a fee of $99. The letterhead and envelope look official and claim to be legitimate and urgent. The money is to be sent to a return address in Wilmington, DE.

The scam involves taking a class that is not required by the Washington State Patrol or any other state’s transportation department, according to a report by KAPP News.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Olympia is investigating the scam.
