Peterbilt NG option ready for production

Both vocational and over-the-road (OTR) truck models powered by natural gas engines are now available for ordering from Peterbilt Motors Co. The OEM said its vocational Model 365 and aerodynamically styled OTR Model 386 tractor can now be equipped with the Cummins Westport ISL G engine, fueled by either compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG).

“These two NG powered platforms join Peterbilt's three medium duty hybrid electric vehicles currently in production to offer the widest range of environmental friendly options to our customers," noted Bill Jackson, Peterbilt gm.

The Peterbilt Model 365 NG, available in both set-forward and set-back axle configurations, features a Cummins ISL G with a 320 horsepower rating and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. The Model 384 NG is designed to meet the needs of linehaul, bulk and tanker hauling fleets.

The Cummins Westport said its ISL G natural gas engine powering both of Peterbilt’s truck models is based on the Cummins ISL diesel engine with cooled EGR and meets the 2010 emission standards established by both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB).
