Truck-Lite introduces high-visibility LED headlights

March 20, 2013

LOUISVILLE, KY. Truck-Lite is showing high-visibility LED headlights this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show here.

“Our strategic mission to innovate and manufacture the best lighting to increase our customer’s safety, coupled with our cutting-edge optics design software has enabled us to grow and strengthen our forward lighting portfolio,” said Brian Kupchella, Truck-Lite president. “Our new LED technology delivers lighting performance far and above the traditional halogen systems, adding increased visibility and safety. The lamp’s proven durability also provides a significant cost-savings from a maintenance standpoint.”

The headlights were initially developed for military use and offer increased durability, visibility and safety, the company said, through the use of more natural light.

Additional the beam pattern of the LED lights reduce eye strain and headlight glare to oncoming traffic. Another benefit is a significant reduction in amperage draw on the vehicle’s electrical system, freeing up power for other uses and resulting in a 50-times longer lighting system life than conventional halogen technology, Truck-Lite said.

“The overwhelmingly positive response to our LED forward lighting products has opened the door to the heavy-duty commercial transportation sector. Our goal is to provide customers with the highest performing visibility systems available on the market,” said Beth English, vice president of marketing.

The custom headlight is currently designed for the Freightliner Cascadia and is available as an aftermarket retrofit from Freightliner dealers. The company said it hopes to develop custom headlight options for other models as well.
