The recent sale of Chrysler to private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management hasn’t shaken up plans to build a $700 million car and light truck axle plant in Marysville, MI. The facility is part of a $3 billion powertrain revitalization effort to produce more fuel-efficient engines, transmissions and axles for Chrysler products.

“The Marysville Axle Plant and other powertrain investments shows our commitment to improving the fuel economy of all of our vehicles,” said Frank Ewasyshyn, Chrysler group’s executive vp for manufacturing.

Construction on the plant will begin this summer. It will employ 900 people when it reaches full volume in 2010 and will produce 1.2 million axles annually, Ewasyshyn noted.
