LTL carrier Con-way Freight is rolling out a new “door-to-port” shipping service from the U.S. to ports throughout the Bahamas and the Caribbean via a new partnership with ocean container cargo carrier Tropical Shipping, which is based at the Port of Palm Beach, FL.

The new service, called TropicalDirect, links Con-way’s national LTL network of 440 terminals to Tropical’s two main warehouses in New Jersey and South Florida, along with its LCL (less-than-containerload) ocean carriage that reaches 30 ports throughout the Bahamas and the Caribbean islands.

Leveraging each company’s expertise, TropicalDirect offers advantages including single-carrier accountability, shipment tracking, expert documentation support, all-inclusive door-to-port pricing and single-invoice billing for most shipments, said David McClimon, president of Ann Arbor, MI-based Con-way Freight.

“This new service helps U.S. shippers in the Bahamas and the Caribbean manage conflicting land and sea schedules to move freight more efficiently and on time,” he added. “It puts an end to the frustration of dealing with multiple carriers, pricing structures and freight bills— delivering a more effective service and single-provider convenience.”
