Cummins is opening a technical research and development center in Wuhan, China, as part of its joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp., for a full range of products built for both Chinese and international customers.
The East AsiaTechnicalCenter, a 55-45 partnership between Cummins and Dongfeng, respectively, will provide engineering and technical development services for the full range of Cummins products built in China, including diesel and natural gas engines, power generators, turbochargers and filtration products.
This is the fourth venture between Cummins and Dongfeng, joining one engine factory (operated by Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co.), one exhaust system plant (Xiangfan Exhaust), and a filter company (Shanghai Fleetguard).
The center is not only going to focus on product development but will also offer emissions testing and customer application engineering so Cummins and Dongfeng can tailor and develop products for specific markets – including the development of new 13-liter engine platform for DCEC.
