The national average price for a gallon of diesel increased 0.8 cents to $2.890 for the week ending May 4, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Not all regions saw a price hike, as those which averaged over $3 were spared any increase. The West Coast region saw prices fall the most, down a modest 0.2 cents to $3.159. Prices in California, which posted the highest prices, remained flat at $3.227. The largest price spike was in the Midwest region, up 1.3 cents to $2.837. The Gulf Coast once again had the lowest prices in the nation, averaging $2.805 despite a 0.7-cent increase.
