Diesel prices drop

The national average price for a gallon of diesel fell two cents to $2.80 for the week ending June 1, according to the Energy Information Administration – the first drop in national average diesel prices in three weeks.

Although prices fell in all regions, the biggest decline was in the Gulf Coast region, with diesel falling three cents to $2.75 per gallon.

The Lower Atlantic and Gulf Coast regions are the cheapest areas in which to fill up now, with both reporting $2.75 per gallon pricing. California, the West Coast in general, and the Rocky Mountain region remain the most expensive, with diesel costing $3.23, $3.16, and $3.04 a gallon respectively.

For the full month of May, diesel prices averaged out to $2.80 per gallon, with the Lower Atlantic and Gulf Coast regions posting the lowest average price of $2.75 per gallon and with the Rocky Mountain region, surprisingly, with the highest monthly average at $2.98 per gallon. California was a close second with a $2.96 per gallon average for May.
