The national average price for a gallon of diesel rose 3.7 cents to $2.877 for the week ending April 15, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Prices increased in all regions, but jumped highest in New England, up five cents to $2.871. Prices were the most stable in the Midwest, rising 2.9 cents to $2.864. The cheapest diesel could be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.849, after increasing 3.9 cents. California once again retained the dubious honor of being the most expensive region in which to fill up at $3.015, after a 3.7-cent increase.
