Double-digit diesel jump

The national average price for a gallon of diesel soared 11.4 cents to $2.79 for the week ending April 1, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Most of the country saw double-digit increases, with the biggest jump in the Midwest, where prices rose 12.5 cents to $2.78. Prices held the steadiest in California, but the region retained its dubious honor of being the most expensive in which to fill up after a seven-cent jump to $2.939. The Lower Atlantic region had the cheapest diesel at $2.739 after climbing 10.9 cents.
